The influence of Flemish workshops in Castile began in the second third of the XV century with the altarpiece of the Contador Saldaña chapel. The work is unique for its typology and style, the roots of neither of which have yet been firmly established. The wings of the altarpiece are attributed to Nicolás Francés, a painter who was active in Leon at that period.
