RELIEFS AND CARVINGS OF THE MAIN ALTARPIECE AND COLLATERAL ALTARPIECES

SURROUNDINGS 

The parish church of San Martin Obispo of Castillonuevo is located in the highest part of the village, near where the castle, which it is named after, once existed. It is a single-nave construction with five sections to which the vestry and chapel, which houses the Virgen de las Victorias (Our Lady of Victory) - originally from the hermitage -, are attached on the southern side.

It was built in mediaeval times and renovated at the start of the 16^th century. The slightly pointed arch of its late-Gothic doorway, and a font with faceted bowl date from that time. Its current roof, a baroque vault, was built in the 18^th century, in Baroque style, the same style as the four altarpieces that comprise its furniture. Only the images of the temple’s patron saint, the Calvary, the images of the attics of the collateral altarpieces and those that accompany the Virgen de las Victorias in that altarpiece are in the same style. The Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Conception were incorporated in the 19^th century.
