The altarpiece has reached the present without having suffered any major alteration. Among the minor alterations that have occurred, we could point out certain missing volumes (the hands of God the Father in the attic, for example), the way the position of the figures to the forefront has been altered thereby revealing areas of exposed wood, fixing elements such as the wooden dowels and pins used to secure the figures in place and small burnt areas. However, the build-up of dirt and oxidised varnish and other layers profoundly blacken the polychrome decoration and give no hint of the altarpiece's original artwork. Applied brocades figure among the most deteriorated areas of colour.
