ALTERATIONS

We do not know when the architectural decoration that framed these reliefs was eliminated; this is the reason why the reliefs are de-contextualised today.

After examination of the polychrome decoration, it may be deduced that the original decoration has undergone several interventions. In the '80's, perhaps due to its poor state of conservation, or maybe the simple whim of what was considered fashionable at the time, an earlier, pastel-toned polychrome decoration was eliminated and a fresh one imitating a supposedly Flemish style was applied.

While this was being done, work was carried out to strengthen and consolidate the support and apply resins and glues to cracks and dovetail joints. Some of the items that had disappeared or were in a poor state of conservation on account of an attack by xylophagous insects were also replaced then.
