SUPPORT AND ELABORATION

The compartment that originally housed the group of figures has not been conserved. The group is made up of several pieces of wood placed on visually ascending planes. The first comprises four panels glued together and additionally reinforced with dowels to which additional fragments such as the Holy Infant in His manger, different architectural elements, hands of figures, etc., were added.

Likewise, the second plane is also made up of four large wooden panels whose lower rear sections have been hollowed out. Glued joints are additionally reinforced with dovetails and large wooden dowels held in place by pegs.  Shims were probably originally used to place this level at the desired height. Today, these have been replaced by a wooden structure.

Those parts of the two levels coming into contact have been manipulated so that they would fit together, as have the backs of the figures on the second level in order to fit them into the rear of the compartment.
