SUPPORT AND ELABORATION

The altarpiece's main frame is of oak. Its rear is made up of three panels assembled using simple joints and reinforced with a crossbar. Ceramic tracery is attached to the main frame by wooden dowels.

The clay reliefs making up the scenario are distributed over several molded plaques: one depicting the body of Christ wrapped in a shroud being carried by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, another depicting the Virgin Mary with St. John, another depicting one of the Holy Women and yet another depicting two Holy Women, one of which (the one carrying the container) was made using the same mold used to make a similar figure in the Road to Calvary scenario.*

These plaques are combined with vegetable decorated elements that are also polychrome decorated. Reliefs are attached to the rear of the altarpiece by means of forged nails, wooden dowels and twine attached to their rears whilst vegetable motif decoration has been attached using studs.

The painted wings are each made from one single oak panel and are attached to the frame by simple hinges.
