ALTERATIONS

The scenes that have survived down to the present have done so in an incomplete fashion that is totally out of context, without any of the distinctive architectural features that may be used to distinguish and identify them. In fact, they have had a somewhat accidental background (see History). Accordingly, we feel sure that the figures currently making up the different pictorial groups or scenes were probably positioned in a more detailed context with other objects and even figures that were used to complete the different scenes. Likewise, we can also see that different items such as hands and feet, the offering held by Saint Joseph, etc. have also disappeared.

The original polychrome decoration was replaced by a later Baroque one, probably when the pieces were incorporated into the XVII century altarpiece. Before that happened, however, the figures were duly prepared and partially backed with fabric. In 1992, to celebrate the Reyes y Mecenas (Kings and Patrons of the Arts) Exhibition, the scenes were restored.
