The close similarities in composition and style between the scene of the Lamentation Over a Dead Christ in this altarpiece and the same scene in another altarpiece conserved in the Vleeshuis Museum, Antwerp, documented as having been made by Antwerp sculptor Jacob van Cothem and dated in 1514, serve to establish the origins of this altarpiece as coming from the same manufacturing source.
