THE LIFE OF THE VIRGIN ALTARPIECE

POLYCHROME DECORATION 

Currently, the altarpiece is neither gilded nor decorated with the usual polychrome decoration. During its last restoration in 2007, the presence of a possibly original, translucent, brownish-grey layer of colour was discovered on the visible areas of wood on the altarpiece. It is thought that this layer served to unify the overall aspect of the support*
