The altarpiece has undergone various interventions during the course of its history:
- Removal of doors for inclusion in the new main altarpiece made between 1750 and 1756 by Nicolás Jazinto and reapplication of polychrome decoration at the same time.
- The sloping ground of the compartments, on which the carvings are placed, causes doubt as to its originality. It is an unusual typology in this type of work and is lacking in the scene of the Visitation. However, the precision of the lower finish of the sculptural groups and certain fragments of probably original polychrome decoration seem to be part of the original work. An in-depth study of the altarpiece appears necessary to determine the chronology of these pieces.
- IPCE intervention (Madrid) in 1963: cleaning of the polychrome decoration and reinstatement of fragments.
- There is evidence of the application of petroleum as a disinfectant at an unknown date.
- Intervention for the purpose of conservation-restoration carried out by Marcos Hernández Moreno at the request of the Canarian Government (1998-1999).
