This altarpiece has survived down to the present day with some of its parts missing. At some undetermined date, its main structure was altered in depth, eliminating the painted and/or carved wings and predella. Likewise, the side sections were also cropped and the scenarios of the Last Supper and Pentecost were inverted (from right to left). At the same time, several elements were added in order to hold the whole group together since it had lost its original fasteners and holders. In 1931, the altarpiece underwent a Neo-gothic masking procedure and a bench and upper finish were added.
As far as the polychrome decoration is concerned, the first fairly effective renovation exclusively affected the centre scenario, when all flesh tones were polychrome redecorated. During the XIX century, more renovation work was carried out - this time a very bad one with extremely limited resources - and most of the figures and woodwork of the altarpiece were repainted, altering all colours profoundly and severely changing the overall appreciation of the altarpiece and its figures.
Work carried out by ALBAYALDE in 2009 and 2010 allows us to appreciate the original state of the altarpiece as much as we possibly can.
