The decorative tracery has almost entirely disappeared, in addition to certain elements to the foreground, such as whatever was originally standing to the left of the centre scene, and other that were attached to the back of the altarpiece, whose presence is witnessed by the holes left by connecting pins, such as in the case of the open space above the Circumcision scene. Most of the bust of God the Father in the attic is also missing.
The attack of xylophagous insects has been particularly intense as may be seen from the numerous fragments and figures missing from the altarpiece, such as the sheep to the foreground, for instance, whose flock stands somewhat depleted today. Polychrome decoration has been partially reapplied with the result that the excess of paint rather deters from the overall appreciation of the work. The altarpiece's general state of conservation suggests an in-depth study and the execution of a later restoration process in order for us to recover the full potential of the altarpiece as much as we possibly can.
