POLYCHROME DECORATION

Re polychromed Rococo decoration in pastel colours imitating garments decorated with pale bouquets and single large flowers that could possible date from 1786, the year when the altarpiece was moved from the cloister to the portico (MUÑIZ PETRALANDA, J., 2008). It presents gilt decoration, Sgrafitto, simple punching decoration and rather exaggerated flesh tones.

The original polychrome decoration has been respected in some areas (side panels and bodice with applied brocade). We may also observe the transparency of the tunic worn by St. John and that of the water in some lakes.

Original polychrome decorative techniques:

Large format continuous brocade (29.3 x 9 cm), without gilt, framed with contours and lines in reliefs and flat areas.  Horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. 11 lines per centimetre. Long-stemmed artichoke motif found on side panels and rear.

Continuous brocade decoration on garments. Gilt. Contoured lined reliefs..

Six pointed stars (12 mm), probably metal, applied to the blue of the vaults.
