The visible polychrome decoration on the reliefs of the main altarpiece is not contemporary with the carving, and its quality is quite bad, showing spot and pastel colours in green, pink, white and ochre tones, which alternate with red and intense blue. The coat of primer is very thick and entirely covers the underlying colour (except perhaps in the flesh tones), even hiding areas of bole and wood, and considerably reducing the definition of the volumes. Losses of support in fingers, hands and faces are dissimulated under the re-polychrome decoration. The basins, vessels and candelabras are decorated in gold and silver, whilst the clothing and headpieces offer trimmings in burnished gold.
The reliefs and carvings of the side altarpieces probably had a similar aspect to that described until recently. Currently, remains of old repainting and new additions exist alongside original polychrome decorated areas. Burnished gold, blue azurite and silver with red, green and perhaps brownish-gray glaze prevail in the latter.
