SUPPORT AND ELABORATION

Of the ensemble of Flemish reliefs, two (Calvary and Pentecost) are housed in their original architectural structure, integrated and hidden today in the side altarpieces. As far as we have been able to ascertain, these original architectures formed single compartment altarpieces with side panels that included the carved frame and hinges to attach the doors (today there are signs of the grooves). The rear of the cases is made up of four bezel-assembled panels and the inner space is defined by edge-joined panels and ribbed vaults.

The sculptural groups (both of the main altarpieces and of the side ones) are carved in one single block, practically half a trunk, and they have been gouged out on the rear. Signs of split-type cuts and of tools such as an axe, saw or adze are observed. Pentecost, the Calvary and one of the saints are made of several pieces with different joints (simple butt, dowel, bolted).
